At Baselworld 2018, Patek Philippe presented the first chronograph in the Aquanaut collection, a complication perfectly suited to the sporty and dynamic character of the timepiece.

The new Aquanaut Chronograph Ref. 5968A-001 is powered by Caliber CH 28-520 C/528, a self-winding flyback chronograph movement that combines tradition and innovation. It features a classic column wheel and a modern vertical disc clutch that prevents the hands from bouncing in either direction when the chronograph is activated. Since this clutch is virtually frictionless, the chronograph hand can also be used as a continuously running seconds hand. The power reserve is 45 to 55 hours.

The appearance of the watch is very attractive and the chronograph function is successfully integrated into the typical design of Aquanaut. The 60-minute counter echoes the typical profile of the slightly rounded octagonal bezel. The broad chronograph pushers are adjacent to the two protrusions protecting the screw-down crown.

The orange chronograph displays (large chronograph hands, quarter-second scale on the peripheral railway track minute scale, 60-minute counter) contrast sharply with the black dial with embossed pattern.

Gold numerals coated with luminescent compound and two luminous baton hands enhance legibility. Water-resistant to 120 meters, the stainless steel case is 42.2mm wide (10 o'clock to 4 o'clock) and 11.9mm thick, making it a comfortable fit on the wrist.

Patek Philippe equips this watch with two composite straps. A black strap is standard. Orange accents bold accents of color on the dial. For added comfort, Patek Philippe has equipped this waterproof and extremely robust bracelet with a new Aquanaut folding clasp with four separate buckles.
